Girl Scouts

I must say in light of all the recent news on Girl Scouts, aside from this year being the 100th Anniversary, I can say that I've never been more proud to be a part of such a positive organization than I have today. I've been a Girl Scout since first year Brownie to Gold Award Senior and well, I'm still a Girl Scout since I was given lifetime membership by mother as a little present for completing my Gold Award. Diverse, tolerant and teaching young girls and women everywhere to be strong leaders who do not discriminate is just the cusp of what they do.

I'm proud to be a Girl Scout and to take photos for their great organization; Happy Birthday Girl Scouts! You've most definitely earned it!

And Thus it Begins....

On my off time, I've decided to begin knitting a Fourth Doctor scarf from the classic Doctor Who series. I imagine it will be quite the endeavor as it's a 12 foot long garter stitch scarf, and well  quite frankly garter stitch gets to be tiring and a wee boring to do after awhile. So in an effort to make this scarf in a relatively short amount of time, I'm going to hopefully make an update each week to see how far along I'll be to completing this mega scarf (although, the longest scarf worn on the show was about 20 feet long), all 68,772 stitches worth.

Maybe I lied...

After making my first pair of socks, I declared that I had not become addicted to making them, then I found myself making another pair, but this time for my niece's birthday present. The next thing I knew, I was back at Out of the Loop buying up some sock yarn and looking up some more patterns on Ravelry... I might've been wrong, or I just really like turning heels, but be prepared there will most likely be an influx of knitted sock

It Really Is Bigger on the Inside...

Let me just preface this by saying I'm a huge nerdy Doctor Who fan. I love the new series and I'm loving the classic series (I'm still making my way through the classic ones starting out with the awesome Fourth Doctor), so when I found out that there was a bar with TARDIS nearby I just had to go.

The Way Station bar in Brooklyn is a wonderful place and has a great atmosphere. The particular night we chose to go was Cyberman Sunday, when the bar was having a showing of some of the best Doctor Who episodes featuring one of the Doctor's formidable opponents, the Cybermen. Although it got a little hard times to hear what was going on, it was a super enjoyable wonderfully nerdy experience.

Also, not only is this bar super nerd friendly, but the drinks are wonderful and you definitely get a bang for your buck. Therefore I should definitely recommend trying the 10th Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver, it's delicious, and speaking of delicious, if you're hungry they offer you take out menus from the area where they will indeed deliver right to the bar so you don't have to miss a moment of Doctor Who!

 

 

And this is where I would fail as the Doctor's companion as I could not quite figure out how to turn on the sonic screwdriver...

Definitely a place to go and check out, as well as, a place that I plan to go back to!

It socks to be me...

Apparently once a knitter learns how to knit proficiently from a scarf all-the-way to a pair of gloves, the next level up is socks. Although I attempted to learn how to knit socks about a year ago I was more frustrated than rewarded and only ended up with one sad looking deformed sock, and despite the hype in the knitting community declaring that knitting socks were a kin to catnip within the feline community, I just didn't quite get it. And so my sad looking sock sat in my one of my yarn stash bins alone and neglected, then one day after knitting a massive amount of mittens and fingerless gloves (something that I got rather addicted to since they worked up super fast) I decided to once more delve into sock territory.

After a quick trip to my local yarn store, Out of the Loop and picking up a skein of Cascade 220 wool, I found a super easy pattern from Ravelry and a couple of youtube videos later I made a sock! However I'm still not sold on their addicted nature quite yet. Although I have to admit I do enjoy turning a heel or two...

B*TCH Premiere's at The Players Theatre

A few days ago I was fortunate enough to watch and shoot some production stills for the off Broadway play B*TCH written by Sean Pompesello and directed by Christian Amato.

Let me start off by saying that you should go see this show. The story revolves around the Debenedetto family which consist of three brothers, one of which was taken in off the streets when he was young, and together they run a car salvage business in the Bronx. But when the brothers find a rare blue pit bull, they decide to go into the get-rich-quick scheme of dog fighting with the help of their estranged and inexorable uncle.

It's funny in all the wrong ways while still shining a message on a serious topic; dog fighting. The characters were intriguing with unfolding back stories which, explained some animosities between one another and themselves. The dialogue was fast paced, dark and hilarious at times (going against all things politically correct); just how I like a story to be told, and this was wonderfully played by the actors at hand.

I can't say this enough, go see it while you can.
