Shot for the Times Herald-Record

The Hudson River has long built communities around it's shore line and today the tradition continues, in New ways.

On the shores of the Kowawese Unique Area at Plum Point, a group of fisherman from all walks of life come together in a friendly round of competition. The Big Fish Hunters whose members consist of retirees, ex-cons, artists and men and women alike fish for the big prize, who can catch the largest striped bass the river has to over. Abiding the rules of the river, the fishermen throw back the smaller fish and mainly catch and release. At the end of the season, they hold a barbecue and reveal who won, so far this season a bass weighing over 50 pounds was caught.

Along the shore of Newburgh students, teachers, and community members, some meeting for the first time, united for Riverkeepers 6th Annual Riversweep. Instructed by Newburgh City Planner Ali Church, locals swept the shoreline of trash, while growing a deeper connection to the riverthat flows past their hometown.

Kingston Point Beach

Whenever I'm on assignment in Kingston, one of my favorite places to go edit photos, or enjoy some down time in between assignments is always Kingston Point Beach in the City of Kingston. It's a quite type place surrounded by seagulls (who, lets face are jerks, but are fun to take photos of) with a lovely beach that sits off of the Hudson River.

I was there just recently again and decided to whip out the camera and capture some fall foliage shots since I've neglected to do so this fall, hopefully I'll go out and get more eventually. But I digress, I just thought I'd share some recent shots:

Franny Reese State Park

Last Friday was a beautiful day to be outdoors, so on the way home from working an assignment for the Times Herald-Record in Ulster County I decided that it was finally time I stop by and visit Franny Reese State Park in Highland.

Although I didn't have much time to fully explore all the trails in the park, a leisurely hour afforded me with a breathtaking view of the Mid Hudson Bridge, the Walkway Over the Hudson and the Poughkeepsie waterfront. Eventually I'll have to make my way back when I have more time and see the other spots highlighted on the trail map which include more scenic vistas and the estate ruins. However if you love spotting ruins and only have time for the one spot, don't despair, if you keep your eyes open along the way to the first scenic outlook on the blue trail there are some ruins if you wonder about 10-20 paces off the trail. You'll come across some twisted and rusted old metal along the stone wall, and just before you venture up the stairs to the first scenic stop there's a wee landing to your right where an old rusted radiator stands, walk towards that and you'll find some more unexpected decaying landmarks.

Also on the ascent, don't forget to turn around and look behind you, although the view is mostly lined by trees, it is still an impressive view.
