A Very Crafty Christmas

With plenty of free time on my hands I put it to good crafty use and made some holiday goodies for friends and family whilst having mini Netflix marathons to keep me entertained in the midst of my crafting madness. So I decided to share some of the presents that were made by the help of patterns found on Ravelry and Photojojo.

BTW if there are any knitters or crocheters out there reading this blog, I'm in love with the Stitch Nation Yarn by Red Heart. It comes in so many vibrant beautiful colors and works up so nicely.

And although I didn't craft her myself, I did crochet the collar that is holding her lovely bow, that she just "loves" to wear

I also made a set of mittens for my nephew and my mother, but I failed to take a photo before wrapping them. Perhaps I'll eventually get photos and post them later but for now...

Portrait time

Taking portraits of children often proves difficult, not so much in that they move quick, but you have limited time. It essentially breaks down to my theory that children are essentially little recovering drug addicts, whose mood swings are fast and unpredictable and are highly dependent on some sort of substance (gold fish, cheese sticks ....) and are libel to snap when going without said substance for a period of time, thus getting that one shot that works all the more difficult. With that said, here are a couple of holiday portraits of my niece and nephew!

B*TCH

Recently I was fortunate enough to shoot some publicity stills for the upcoming play B*TCH written by Sean Pomposello and directed by Christian Amato.

A fun shoot on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan located near the ever popular High Line Park, it's hard to believe such a beautiful section of the city not so long ago was home to sex clubs and leather bars, but that's another story....

Back to the topic at hand, B*TCH. The comedic story revolves around three brothers who decide to embark on the unpleasant sport of dog fighting, enlisting the help of Uncle Knee Co, a card carrying member of the Mothers and Fathers Italian Association (aka the mob), in order to make big money fast.

After meeting the director and cast and snapping a few photos of the actors in character, I'm sure that the upcoming performances in January, B*TCH will be a hit.

Arthur Aulisi as Uncle Knee Co

Michael Neithardt as Junie

Benjamin Weaver as Mitts

Brian Cheng as Davy Dollar$

Gina Lemoine as Gil

~*~
B*TCH will be at The Players Theater from January 5th - 28th.

One Plus One Equals...

Inspired by another photographer, I decided to try this for my brother's family portrait and thought the outcome was adorable.

Fear and Loathing in the Valley

When a part-time job takes over your life and makes you a miserable bitter human being more often than not, it's time to leave. Sure there were good times along the way and new friends made but when you dread going to work in fear of fellow employees either not showing up entirely or forty minutes late and, even a few times, two and a half hours late it's no longer fun and worth it especially for minimum wage.

Don't get me wrong though, I was and still am grateful for the opportunity that I was given as an employee. I got to meet some great people along the way, go to an actual concert (and found one of my new loves in life - concert photography), but when you arrive to a client and they spend a good amount of time ripping you a new one for nothing that you have control over since you were told something entirely different by your boss who never answer the phone to remedy the situation, it's just not worth it.

Not to mention when you "open the door" to a service and then have the door ripped off its hinges for no tangible return, you can't help but feeling like a cheap whore being taken advantage of.

It was that and all the little things that made me sure it was time to quit, because after all I do have several backup freelance gigs booked from December throughout July. And although I'm sure I'm not the only one in this boat, but 1 B.A.+1 B.A.+Honor Societies+Dean's List+Internship shouldn't = 0 benefits part-time minimum wage job that occasionally made me want to jump off a bridge a time or two.

I'm still grateful though, which I suppose is why after my last day working for the station I couldn't have been more happy that I was leaving, but I was feeling a wee bit tearful. Throughout my nine months there, I made some great new friends that I still plan to hang out with and learned some new things across the board (if you get it, pun most definitely intended). I'm a little scared at what the future holds, but hey who isn't. I just know that I made the best decision for me.

Thank you.
