Bike Ride for Cancer Care

In 2003 the Gruner family faced a heartbreaking loss; Rosemary was a wife, a mother and a grandmother as she became the latest victim to lung cancer, a fast killing disease that take about 1.3 million people per year. Yet those that are able to say that they fought the "Big C" and won don't necessarily come out of the fight with all faculties intact.

Although the Gruner family were fortunate to be able to afford their mother's cancer care at Benedictine hospital, in addition to the daily cost of living, they soon saw that not everyone could do so. They watched as families struggled to pay bills, put food on the table and have enough money to put gas in the car to visit their loved ones who were fighting for their lives in the hospital. And that's why they thought of no better way than to honor the charitable resolve of Rosemary by starting the Rosemary D. Gruner Memorial Cancer Fund which helps to  provide the basic necessities of families in need who have loved ones fighting cancer.

This past Sunday the Gruner family held their 8th Annual Bike Ride for Cancer Care where hundreds of riders and volunteers come out in the wee hours of the morning to help raise money for the fund. This year exceeded expectations and raised over $100,000.
